No Man Is An Island

Men need time away with other men. Its just the way God wired us. It’s not that time with spouses and in mixed groups isn’t wonderful, its just different. This is true I think for all men, but especially for men who are Kingdom-minded. Jesus didn’t travel alone. He selected 12 men to make His journey with Him. He poured into their lives, shared in their trials, and enjoyed their company. He asked them to pray with Him and for Him.

I spent this past weekend with well over a 100 like-minded men. We shared life, and the love of Christ for three days. We slept 10 to a cabin, prayed together, shared experiences, talked of challenges and mountaintop experiences. Each of us left with new friendships, a refreshed spirit, and a better understanding that our walk with Christ should be a shared experience.

When you are the only man on your island, you can think your challenges are unique, like somehow you don’t measure up. You lose the chance to gain Godly wisdom from older men who have made the walk of faith before you. And older men lose the chance to experience the passion of that first love over again.

I communicate most readily from my head. Its only in the company of my wife or of like-minded men that I find the voice of my heart. Think of how your life would be enriched if you added a mentor to help guide you, peers to validate and encourage you, and disciples to pour into.

No man is an island, but we can find an oasis for the soul in the company of Godly men.
